NEXT CLASS January 9th, 2025

  • Let’s start the New Year strong! First level promotion test coming soon! Yellow Belt/Sash (Official Student)

The next few lessons are important classes.

New Dojo (5-8′ deeper expansion coming soon)

Phase 1. By January we hope to expand 5 plus feet deeper.

Our Thursday Evening Class has 3-5 more spots. As with new classes, it takes a few months to find the core devoted students. Spread the word as we try to reach 10 or so regular students per class.
The more we have, the more training aids we can purchase and we can lower tuition even more! The first members will always have low tuition.

Get a discount for paying in advance.
Must pay on or before the first class of the month to get the “advance payment” discount.

This chart is for charter members. Future members may pay more. Charter members are locked in to the lowest discounts.
Spread the word to friends, family and colleagues before the new club rates go up.
Most fees are reinvested into training aids, upgrades and upkeep.

FYI: We are only looking for 10 diligent students for each class.
We have a “Diligence Discount” that was very successful in Japan.

It is officially starting now:

Achieve Blue Belt – additional 10% Off (Occasionally lead warm ups)

Achieve Green Belt – additional 25% Off (Occasionally assist the teacher)

Achieve Brown Belt – additional 50% Off (Assist the teacher)

Achieve Black Belt – Total of 75% Off (Help Instruct and Lead)

Achieve Black Belt 2nd Degree. (100% off) Lead and Teach your own class. (80% solo, some supervision) in exchange for private lessons.

FYI: After paying the initiation fee of $15 each person, you will get an Association patch and one year membership, a satin sash/belt and a “Nafudakake” with your name in calligraphy (Katakana), in tradition with real Asian martial art schools. The name plate will be put up in the training area. This signifies that you are a member.

By being one of the first students of this new club, you can get special discounts and benefits as a “Charter Member” (First 20 students of a new club or location).

From Matt:

Remember, as with any physical class, it takes time to sync coordination, timing and technique together. In kung fu, we have the added mental training of heightened awareness, confidence and the retraining of our reflexes. That said, many may find it frustrating in the early stages of learning the first few of the ancient techniques. I add fun and functional “Learn-today, do-today” techniques to make it interesting and encouraging.
Learning curves are different for different people. Physical skill acquisition ability is unrelated to intelligence, all will eventually get it, just different speeds. I was a slow starter but made it to the very rare level of 8th Degree Blackbelt.
As with any club, it takes a few weeks to settle in and for the group to mesh. Please fill free to approach me about any concerns. I have decades of experience and have taught hundreds of students from several countries.

From my over 3 decades of teaching in Asia and America, the biggest regret I’ve had from my students or former students is that they wished they would of stuck it out or gave it a longer chance. They deeply regretted dropping out.
Some later saw their friends, family and former classmates at such a high skill.
Some returned to the class to join after a incident or reconsideration and many of the students that started with them were now very proficient and even instructors. This has happened more than once.

My personal philosophy: As with school education which is mandatory and necessary for success in the world, I insist my children learn this skill as a survival and essential Life Skill.
Some kids are resistant to social change at first and may not understand this alien Asian “thing” which is kung fu. Many have a total misconception about it due to movies and phonies.
Give it a long try. As with any activity, you will have peaks and valleys of interest. Some weeks you may not feel like coming, some you look forward to coming. This is natural and the more your skill increases, the more you will love it.  I promise you, it will be one of the most meaningful achievements in your life, you’ll find.
For the new students, I make it as interesting and fun as possible so that they enjoy or learn to enjoy it, but to me it is not only considered a hobby or activity, it is an “essential” life skill in today’s world. So, in my family it is mandatory to learn real world self defense.
The percentages are against us. In our lifetime About 3 out of 4 people will become victims of a completed or attempted assault; 2 in 5 will be victims of this crime at least twice.

TRAINING TIP:
Balance is a key quality in martial arts. You can incorporate training into your day to day normal activities. Example: Try putting on your shoes while standing.
Try to keep your back straight. Try socks first if shoes are too difficult.
Winter Training

– Qigong for the season of Winter. Lung cleansing exercises and breathing.

– Technique (Tools) Repetitions

– Two-man Drills (Reflex-Responses)

– Balance and Flexibility

– Peripheral and Chi Sao Drills

Tentative Schedule

Thursdays (January Inside – Qualities Training): 9, 16, 23, 30 (2nd Off New Year’s)

Thursdays (February Inside – Qualities Training): 6, 13, 20, 27

OTHER INFORMATION:

FEES

$15 a class ( up to 30% more off) For military families, Scouts and First Responders! ($11)
Add mom, dad or a sibling or spouse for only $5 each class! (Rotation ok at no extra charge). Example, mom this week, dad next week). If you are dedicated with great attendance, you will receive a $10 credit for attending 10 consecutive classes.
Part of the requirement is moral character and dedication. If you don’t attend 3 consecutive lessons with no contact, we will assume you quit and make your spots available to others.
IF you find that the $15 per class is not affordable for some reason, please talk with Matt in confidence and we will work with you. Don’t let cash flow issues interrupt learning this valuable life skill.

You can pay as you go, or for the month if desired. Paying in advance a month is cheaper and recommended. Advance payment can help motivate and inspire.
If for some reason the class is canceled, a refund , or a rain check will be given if paid in advance.
Kung Fu is traditionally an outdoor activity.
The teacher’s garage will be converted and fixed up for the Winter lessons.

We encourage families and groups.

A big portion of membership fees will be reinvested in training aids.  Membership fees are negotiable if you are having financial problems. You shouldn’t ever stop learning because of money. We will work with you privately.

We encourage members to help us grow to spread real world self defense in a society of fakes and dangerous misinformation on self defense. The more members, the cheaper for all.
If you refer someone, and they join, we will give you a Free Class voucher and 25% off all other fees as long as the referral remains a member after 2 month’s minimum. (Effective from 11/01/2024)
