Our teacher, Matt Plewes, has decades of martial arts teaching experience in the United States and Asia, including Japan and Singapore. He began operating commercial martial arts programs in 1998 and later managed several teaching locations in Japan.
After 40 years, 22 years of which were teaching, training, and researching martial arts in Japan, Matt returned home to Virginia to spend time with his elderly father during his two final years and to give his children the opportunity to experience an American education.
Today, Matt works full-time on weekends in the office of a major import distribution center and also serves as the administrator for several client websites. He has no interest in returning to commercial martial arts teaching. However he will always teach as it keeps him healthy and young.
That said, the club is intentionally kept small and personal, with an emphasis on dedicated students, quality instruction, and a friendly training environment rather than operating as a commercial martial arts school.
Our dues are kept very affordable—a fraction of traditional commercial school rates. Most club income is put directly back into the program to help cover training equipment, supplies, facility expenses, events, and other club needs.
Classes are conducted in a converted private home garage training space, helping us keep overhead low and instruction affordable.
Outcall private and group lessons are also available for those who prefer training at their own location.
